Summary
The Quality Inspection (QI) Engineer is responsible for strengthening inspection precision, laboratory performance, and cross‑functional alignment within a high-volume lithium‑ion battery manufacturing environment. This role provides technical guidance to Quality Inspectors, leads process‑improvement initiatives, manages inspection equipment standards, and ensures full compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. The engineer serves as a key interface between Quality Assurance and other engineering functions to support robust product quality, operational excellence, and drives root‑cause investigations for quality issues.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to Quality Inspectors during complex investigations and nonconformance evaluations.
- Review inspection data to identify inaccuracies, systemic errors, and opportunities to reduce invalid or cancelled nonconformance reports.
- Ensure inspection activities are executed with high levels of accuracy, repeatability, and procedural adherence.
- Conduct MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique) studies to evaluate inspection workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and throughput.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within inspection and laboratory operations, ensuring changes are data‑driven and sustainable.
- Oversee laboratory turnaround time (TAT), including monitoring, documenting, and reporting performance metrics to drive accountability and improvement.
- Co-Develop, maintain, and standardize training materials for laboratory inspection methods, equipment operation, and quality procedures.
- Ensure training content is clear, concise, effective, and incorporates historical problem cases and lessons learned.
- Support inspector onboarding and ongoing competency assessments to maintain a highly skilled inspection workforce.
- Manage and maintain equipment operation procedures (EOP) for all quality laboratory equipment, ensuring documents remain current, robust, and aligned with best practices.
- Ensure EOP documentation clearly defines proper operation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and relevant historical issues.
- Collaborate with OEM and engineering teams to ensure equipment reliability, readiness, and compliance with quality requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, fire, and environmental regulations within inspection and laboratory areas.
- Lead or support root‑cause investigations, perform plan do check action (PDCA) and track the long‑term effectiveness of implemented solutions.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with internal quality systems and external regulatory expectations.
- Serve as the liaison between QA Engineers and other cross‑functional engineering teams to ensure alignment on inspection requirements, quality standards, and technical resolutions.
- Prepare and deliver formal presentations to senior leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders to communicate quality issues, risks, trends, and improvement initiatives related to QI.
- Translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences.
- Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:

- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support business needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in quality engineering, inspection, or manufacturing operations; experience in lithium‑ion battery or chemical manufacturing is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including experience with root‑cause analysis methodologies.
- Familiarity with MOST, Lean, Six Sigma, or other structured process‑improvement tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions.
- Working knowledge of laboratory equipment, metrology, and quality management systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- 0 to 3+ years of experience in manufacturing related job or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience in a Quality or Manufacturing role in a fast-paced environment, including internship or co-op experience is a plus.
Knowledge/skills:
- Battery production related knowledge a plus
- Knowledge of IATF16949 standards a plus
- Knowledge of Minitab, Six Sigma, 8D problem solving methodology a plus
- Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and technical presentations
- Critical thinking and an analytical approach to problem solving
- Strong self-motivation and desire to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Ability to multitask and solve complex problems
- Bilingual (Korean/English) or Multilingual (Korean/English/Japanese) proficiency a plus

- Comply with company Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements
- Able to work in both office and manufacturing environments
- Hands-on support of equipment
- Prompt and regular attendance within our onsite operations
- Flexibility to work adjusted shifts as necessary
- This role requires up to 20% of travel (domestic and/or international)
