Reporting to the Production Manager, the Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for planning, developing, designing, and coordinating manufacturing improvements across LG Chem’s U.S. production facilities. This role focuses on optimizing manufacturing processes, improving workflow, and ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety across operations. The engineer will monitor, analyze, and enhance production systems to meet performance targets, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to support business planning, cost management, and a culture of continuous improvement.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Support manufacturing operations including material handling, processing, packaging, and shipment.
  • Provide technical support across all production shifts, including occasional off-shift work.
  • Assist in achieving production goals and resolving operational issues.
  • Monitor process variances and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term solutions for process and equipment challenges.
  • Manage production orders and maintain accurate master data (materials, BOMs, routings).
  • Support scheduling and inventory management to enhance efficiency and traceability.
  • Maintain financial controls and support budget adherence.
  • Develop and optimize processes for new and existing products to improve yield and reduce variability.
  • Plan and execute experiments, validations, and process characterizations.
  • Specify, procure, and implement new equipment and technologies.
  • Create and maintain SOPs and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control to ensure product standards are met.
  • Analyze defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Track and manage production costs and utility usage.
  • Contribute to business planning and performance reporting.
  • Support equipment maintenance and supply inventory.
  • Promote and adhere to ISO and EHS standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Collaborate with R&D, procurement, and supply chain teams on new technologies and materials.
  • Communicate project progress and results to stakeholders.
  • Independently manage projects while maintaining alignment with team goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Education: B.S. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in a manufacturing environment (e.g., assembly, machining, processing, packaging).
  • Preferred Knowledge: Familiarity with process optimization, equipment troubleshooting, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Technical Skills: Understanding of material properties, heat transfer, automation, and production systems.
  • Leadership: Hands-on, proactive approach to leadership and problem-solving.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal, presentation, and documentation skills.
  • Software: Experience with 3D modeling software and ERP systems is a plus.
