Job Summary (Basic Functions):  LG Chem Advance Materials, Inc. (LGCTA) is actively searching for a Process Materials Engineer will be an individual contributor reporting to the Production Manager and work alongside our Powder Solutions team. 

  

The Process Materials Engineer will deal with foreign materials & environment debris, wear and materials of equipment for our new cathode material manufacturing plant in Clarksville, Tennessee. 

 

The Process Materials Engineer will report to the Powder Solutions Team Manager and is a member of our powder solutions team, serving as a core engineer and technical resource to stabilize the metallic foreign materials in each installed line early by managing the cleaning process, attire and foreign materials for access to production space and to inspect the wear and materials of equipment for pre and post start-up plant operations. The Process Materials Engineer will also resolve the issues related to magnetic/non-magnetic foreign matter in the product from the mass production according to standards, and deal with customer audits. 

This role will serve as a process foreign materials expert, establish the standard & regulation, train and distribute standards & regulations to workers and work with related department on day-to-day issues. 

The Process Materials Engineer will develop a sound understanding of the plant’s equipment & process, analysis results of magnetic/non-magnetic foreign matter in product, management of attire and foreign materials for access to production space, and inspection of wear & materials of equipment. Also Process Materials Engineer will deal with the audit challenge of customer. 

 

The Process Materials Engineer is a vital member of our powder solutions team and will support special projects related to process improvement, process loss reduction and new product introduction.  

 

 

This position is based full time in Clarksville, TN and is not a remote role.  

 

What You’ll Be Doing 

 

Essential Functions (include but are not limited to): 
 

New Factory Early Stabilization:   

  • During the equipment expansion phase, patrol the installed line and conduct inspection of foreign materials, wear, materials of equipment from the beginning of equipment entry into production space to mass production according to standards or direction of manager. 

  • During the equipment expansion phase, coordinate the schedule with expansion team,  train the cleaning standards & procedures to supervising cleaning subcontractors from the beginning of production space cleaning to cleaning inspection status. 

  • Review equipment document details and participate in Factory Acceptance Test(FAT)/Site Acceptance Test(SAT) to ensure that equipment is meeting the design intent from the PS team perspective.  
     

DOE (Design of Experiments) evaluation and Training: 

  • Coordinate the DOE schedule with all relevant departments and train all individuals who enter production space with the regulations related to entry routes, entry attire. 

  • Train and distribute information on standards & regulations related to dress code, entry accessibility, acceptable equipment materials to all workers regularly in order to maintain the level of foreign matter control. 

  • Establish and manage a job training program for all manufacturing processes, procedures and techniques; document work standards (guides, SOPs, etc.), for new operators, technicians and engineers in various areas of defect engineering. Provide technical support as needed. 

 

Quality Evaluations and Inspections: 

  • Conduct inspection of all the materials of equipment, tools with handheld XRF analyzer and manage entry attire which come into production space and prohibit high-risk materials with maintenance team according to standards. 

  • Conduct inspection of equipment wear regularly in the production space with maintenance team and manage the risk of introducing foreign materials. 

  • Manage and improve the key performance indexes related to defect engineering to ensure manufactured products meet or exceed established customer requirements 

 

Data Analysis: 

  • Monitor product analysis data from QA/QC and address the issues related to metallic foreign matter of product according to standards. 

  • Conduct analysis of the foreign substance with SEM-EDS instrument if needed. 

  • Collaborate in the analysis of production data and lead activities to improve plant equipment effectiveness and reduce waste within operations 

  • Conduct root cause analysis for manufacturing issues and non-conformances, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Engineering review, analysis and decision making: Knowledge of and ability to use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions and/or reaching conclusions. Ability to make decisions and take action consistent with available facts, constraints, and anticipated consequences. Identify issues, obtain relevant information, relate and compare data from different sources, and identify alternate solutions. 

 

Education: Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering or related field required. Additional relevant work experience is a plus. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Minimum 3 years of stable work history is required.  

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in manufacturing engineering, or a technical field preferably in powder, chemical, glass, refinery, plastics, food, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, automotive or batteries. 

  • Able to work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours and participate in on-call rotation during DOE period. 

  • Able to respond off hours and weekends to troubleshoot plant issues. 

  • Able to conduct inspection in confined spaces for up to thirty minutes in a worn state of PPE. 

  • Should have no hesitation or discomfort in operating handheld XRF equipment. 

  • Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 50 lbs.; 

  • Exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards. 

  • Able to travel to different sites and locations; undertake long-term international travel.  

  • Able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and other garments as needed. This may include safety shoes, safety glasses, Masks, full body gowns, hair nets, gloves, hearing protection, and air respirator. 
     

Preferred Qualification/What We’d Like to See: 

  • Find and Address problems of technical complexity on identifying Processes.  

  • Experience with SEM-EDS analysis instrument.  

  • Propose innovative solutions accordingly and Develop band New Products.  

  • Experience utilizing lean manufacturing concepts with a proven track record of lean / six sigma, SPC and capability analysis.  

  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and presentation  

  • Proficiency in the use of PC and Microsoft Office suite (Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word etc.) 

  • Excellent analytical ability to effectively analyze production data.
