Summary:

The Equipment Service Assistant Supervisor is responsible for supporting the Equipment Service Supervisor in overseeing the daily operations of the Equipment Service department. This includes coordinating, supervising, and assisting in the maintenance of all machinery and equipment, to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. The Equipment Service Assistant Supervisor will lead and mentor maintenance staff, assist with work scheduling, and ensure the safe, efficient, and timely completion of maintenance tasks. This role also focuses on enhancing productivity through continuous improvement, compliance with safety protocols, and managing KPIs to track team and equipment performance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Supervision and Leadership:
    • Assist the Equipment Service Supervisor in overseeing the daily activities of the maintenance team, including work assignments, performance monitoring, and providing guidance.
    • Mentor and develop maintenance technicians by providing technical assistance, training, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
    • Lead by example to ensure that team members follow all safety protocols, company policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Provide constructive feedback and actively participate in the performance evaluation process.
  • Work Order Management:
    • Help create, prioritize, and track maintenance work orders using the EMS system
    • Ensure all work orders are completed on time and accurately documented, including labor hours, materials used, and maintenance outcomes.
    • Monitor progress and ensure that work orders are managed efficiently, adjusting schedules when necessary to accommodate urgent or unforeseen issues.
  • Preventive Maintenance (PM) Coordination:
    • Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating preventive maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime and maintain equipment reliability.
    • Ensure that preventive maintenance tasks are completed on schedule, while managing and adjusting PM schedules to accommodate operational needs.
    • Use EMS to track preventive maintenance performance and identify trends or patterns that may indicate potential failures or areas for improvement.
  • Troubleshooting and Technical Support:
    • Provide hands-on support and technical expertise in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems to resolve maintenance issues.
    • Support technicians during emergency repairs, providing guidance to ensure efficient and effective solutions.
    • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring issues and collaborate with the team to implement corrective actions that reduce future breakdowns.
  • Inventory and Spare Parts Management:
    • Assist in managing the inventory of maintenance parts, materials, and tools, ensuring that stock levels are maintained and easily accessible.
    • Use EMS to track parts usage and inventory, identifying when to reorder parts to avoid delays in maintenance tasks.
    • Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure timely ordering of parts and ensure the correct parts are available for scheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Shift and Resource Scheduling:
    • Coordinate maintenance staff schedules, ensuring coverage for shift assigned, including weekends and holidays, and accommodate emergency or unplanned maintenance work.
    • Adjust schedules as needed to ensure proper staffing levels during high-demand periods or unforeseen issues.
    • Work closely with the production department to align maintenance activities with production schedules and minimize downtime.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with safety standards, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, line break permitting, confined space permitting and entry, and the use of appropriate PPE.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections of tools, equipment, and workspaces, ensuring that they are safe for use and in good working condition.
    • Lead and participate in safety audits, risk assessments, 5S and safety training for maintenance team members.
    • Actively promote a safety-first culture within the maintenance department.
  • Performance Tracking and Reporting:
    • Help track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to equipment reliability, work order completion, downtime, and maintenance cost efficiency.
    • Assist with generating and analyzing reports from the EMS system to monitor maintenance trends, identify areas for improvement, and ensure optimal performance.
    • Report on maintenance activities, including team performance, downtime, equipment reliability, and the status of ongoing maintenance projects to the Maintenance Supervisor or Management.
  • Continuous Improvement and Cost Management:
    • Identify opportunities for improvement in maintenance processes, equipment performance, and team efficiency.
    • Suggest and help implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining or improving maintenance quality and safety.
    • Stay informed on new technologies, equipment, and industry best practices, recommending and helping to integrate them into the department when appropriate.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Assist in maintaining compliance with environmental and regulatory standards, such as waste disposal and energy efficiency, through proactive maintenance and audits.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Technical certifications or an associate degree in industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering, electrical systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in maintenance preferred or a similar technical role, with some experience in a supervisory or lead position.
    • Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or maintenance environment.
    • Proven experience using CMMS (e.g., Maximo, SAP, or similar systems) for work order management, scheduling, and inventory control.
  • Technical Skills:
    • EMS (Equipment Management System): Must be able to navigate the EMS system for work order tracking, preventive maintenance scheduling, and inventory management.
    • Mechanical & Electrical Systems: Strong knowledge of industrial equipment, mechanical systems (motors, pumps, conveyors), and electrical systems (PLCs, VFDs).
    • Troubleshooting: Proficient in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and facility systems.
    •  Preventive Maintenance (PM): Expertise in preventive maintenance practices and ability to schedule and track PM tasks effectively.
  • Leadership & Communication:
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, coach, and motivate a team of technicians.
    • Excellent communication skills to relay instructions and feedback to team members, as well as collaborate with other departments.
    • Ability to handle difficult situations, manage conflicts, and keep the team focused during emergencies or challenging tasks.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA) and best practices for industrial maintenance.
    • Experience in conducting safety audits, training staff on safety procedures, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
    • Ability to actively promote and enforce a culture of safety within the maintenance team.
  • Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking:
    • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly address and resolve equipment failures and operational issues.
    • Ability to assess complex situations and apply logical and creative solutions to minimize downtime and optimize operations.
  • Software Proficiency:
    • Microsoft Office Suite: Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

 

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience in manufacturing/production environment preferred
  • PLC, Robotics, Hydraulic, Pneumatics, HMI, Vision and Servo systems experience required
  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge required
  • Able to communicate clearly in verbal and written format
  • Able to analyze problems and determine root cause
  • Strong self-direction and drive
  • Capability to develop a high level a high level of expertise/aptitude in mechanical and electrical areas
  • Experience with enterprise software such as Maximo preferred

 

 Additional Requirements:

  • This role is based in an industrial or manufacturing environment, with occasional travel required.
  • Prompt and regular attendance within our onsite operations
  • Flexibility is required, with the possibility of working weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts, depending on operational needs
