Summary:
Focus on improving Health and Safety at the Jeffersonville site by using experience to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace and engage employees in the development of a strong Health and Safety culture. Evaluates workplace compliance with regard to local, state and federal regulations. Functions as an expert resource to teams for consistent implementation of LH Battery.
Responsibilities:
- Performs jobsite auditing and conducts incident investigation
- Conducts inspections and ensures compliance with applicable Health and Safety regulations and standards
- Support assigned department to be main contact for Health and Safety (HS) to assist departments in achieving HS goals and objectives
- Assist in managing the ISO 45001 certification process and lead the HS Compliance Team to drive continuous improvement in HS programs
- Ensure hazard identification and mitigation for plant operations and administrative offices
- Conduct daily line walks to ensure HS practices are being observed and to note any at-risk behaviors, unsafe conditions, faulty equipment or non-compliance with any HS related policies/regulations
- Ensure timely communication of safety issues/concerns to department leadership
- Lead cross-functional teams to drive improvements
- Perform and document complex safety compliance activity to include: Critical communication cross verifications and implementation of strategic safety projects and initiatives.
- Detailed presentation and reporting of safety activities and results including complex data analysis and trending
- Participate in incident investigations and track corrective actions
- Proactively cycle P-D-C-A safety compliance programs to reduce injuries and hazards and ensure continuous improvement of safety characteristics of assigned areas
- Conduct new equipment reviews, mechanical risk assessments and ergonomic risk assessments
- Participate in emergency response drills and critiques
- Conduct new hire orientation, contractor safety and other SH&E related training topics
- Develop/update site specific programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
- Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
- Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
- Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering ore related field required, MBA or MS preferred, or equivalent, relevant experience
- Professional certification (ASP/CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred
Experience:
- 2-4 years of safety experience
Skills:
- Interpersonal relationship skills
- Detailed understanding of major health and safety regulations (OSHA, NFPA, ANSI)
- Detailed understanding of injury/illness prevention strategies
- Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Open to mentorship guidance for personal skill growth
- Experience using Microsoft Office products
- Strong planning and prioritization skills
- Advanced data analysis and problem-solving skills
- Complex understanding of business plan, budgeting and cost reporting.
- Expertise with root cause analysis and implementation of countermeasures

- This role requires up to 10% of travel (domestic, with potential international)
